01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Aromatic steam rises from the small bowls gathered on the platter, carrying the scent of ground spices and the gentle comfort of simmered lentils. While functioning as a friendly neighbourhood curry spot in Nishi-Kameari, Katsushika Ward, Spice Garden has built a loyal following for its authentic Nepalese dal bhat sets and thalis, often featured on its handwritten boards. The special thali centres around white rice and papad, flanked by velvety daal, tender stewed mutton, bhutan (spiced stir-fried offal), vegetable tarkari, and pungent achar. The real pleasure lies in mixing each element little by little with the rice, followed frequently by a sweet, milky cup of hot chai that gently rounds out the lingering spices.
Fragrant naan, diverse curries, and tandoori plates
Classic Indian-style curries and freshly baked naan are equally well represented. Alongside chewy plain naan, options range from molten cheese naan and aromatic garlic naan to fruit-studded kabuli naan. The curry selection is broad, spanning rich spinach mutton, chicken, prawn, and earthy dal masala. Generous lunch and dinner sets let diners round out their meal with crisp tandoori chicken or seekh kebabs for a hearty feast.
Relaxing evenings over biryani and momos
Hearty platters of chicken or mutton biryani provide another satisfying meal, best enjoyed with spoonfuls of cool raita mixed in to lighten the spiced rice. The menu also includes Nepalese snacks such as steamed momo dumplings and assorted vegetable pakodas, well suited for lingering over a cold beer, Nepalese rum, or a lassi cocktail. From an uncomplicated everyday lunch to an evening spent exploring authentic Himalayan home cooking, the restaurant easily accommodates whatever you are in the mood for.
